Remembering September 11

September 11, 2001, is a date sketched deep within any American's soul.  We can never forget that day.  As we saw plane after plane crash, we wondered if it was the end of the world.
We called our moms.
We held our kids.
We hugged our husbands.
We held our breath and watched and waited.

Of course, our hope is in Jesus.  And we know that this life is just temporary.  Yet, loss of loved ones is real pain that we feel on this earth.

Today, I will attend a funeral.  A girl that is so deeply dear to my heart has lost her uncle to leukemia.  She sent me a message in the middle of the night Monday morning.  With desperation, she asked us to pray.  That next morning, at 6 am, we threw some clothes on and rushed to their house and were able to pray with the family just as the ambulance with her uncle and grandmother were heading to Belize City Hospital.  Her uncle did not survive the day.

We have ministered deeply to this family who less than two years ago lost her father one day, suddenly, when he had a heart attack.  Their grief is still heavy from that loss, only to now lose an uncle, son, brother.

Please pray for this family.  Tori and I went over and spent some time with them last night.  We will attend the funeral today, which will be very small.  Pray as we minister for God to give us wisdom and to be able to offer hope in the midst of this very, very hard time.

So, today I am remembering the grief of my homeland those twelve years ago.  The day that changed EVERYTHING.  The day that changed our views, the way we fly, and on and on.

And I will minister to a family who is walking through raw, fresh grief.  A family that is devout in their relationship with God, but that needs to feel Him close to them right now.
